Learn more by watching our Trader Meerkat MENGR | Neon Indicator Mechanism 250V | Green video.
The Trader MENGR is a neon indicator mechanism rated 250V AC, supplied in a green lens as part of the Meerkat mechanism range. The MENGR mounts into Clipsal, Trader, NLS and 4C switch plates, so it drops into standard grid positions alongside switch mechs. Identification for 250V is marked on the lens itself. Trader covers the mechanism with a 10 year warranty.
Plant rooms, pump circuits and hardwired appliance runs give no visual sign that a circuit is energised once the plate is fitted. Diagnosis then starts at the switchboard rather than at the point of control. The MENGR draws approximately 250-275mW at 250V, so the load added to a lighting or appliance subcircuit is negligible. Neutral and active terminate to either terminal, which removes a polarity check from an install already tight on time.
Indication mechanisms turn a plain switch plate into a status display without a second point, a separate pilot fitting, or extra switchboard hardware. The MENGR shares the grid footprint used across the Meerkat mechanism range, so it occupies a spare aperture on an existing plate rather than requiring a fresh cut-out. Terminal bores of 4.1mm accommodate 4 x 1.5mm2 or 3 x 2.5mm2 conductors, which covers loop-in wiring at the switch without duplicating terminations in a connector. Stocking green, amber and red mechanisms in one housing consolidates a single mechanism profile across every indication job.
The MENGR is rated 250V AC only and is not suitable for 24V d.c. signalling circuits. It is a mechanism, not a complete plate assembly, so it is not a standalone fitting. The published data carries no IP rating for the MENGR, so it is not specified for weatherproof or damp exposed positions. Installation is work for a licensed electrician.
(MENGR)
The MENGR is rated 250V AC, with the 250V identification printed on the lens for confirmation on site. The neon draws approximately 250-275mW at 250V. A 24V d.c. version of the Meerkat neon mech is available separately in the same housing for low-voltage signalling work.
Neutral and active can be connected to either terminal on the MENGR, so the mech is not polarity dependent. Terminal bores measure 4.1mm and accommodate 4 x 1.5mm² or 3 x 2.5mm² cables. Installation must be carried out by a licensed electrician.
The MENGR fits Clipsal, Trader, NLS and 4C plates. It is supplied as a mechanism only, so a compatible plate is ordered separately. Trader Meerkat grid plates and standard 30 series style plates from those ranges take the mech in a single aperture.
Inductive loads occasionally cause neons to glow in the OFF position. Placing a 47kohm, 0.5W 240V resistor across the terminals overcomes this. The effect is a characteristic of neon indicators on inductive circuits rather than a fault in the mechanism.
The Meerkat neon indicator mechanisms come in green, orange (amber) and red. The MENGR is the green version. All three share the same housing and terminal arrangement, so the wiring and plate fitment are identical across the colours.
Trader warrants the MENGR for 10 years from the invoice date. The warranty method is return to Sparky Direct. Warranties are void if the product is not installed by a licensed electrician.
The published data for the Meerkat neon indicator mechanism carries no IP rating, so it is not specified for weatherproof or damp exposed positions. Fit it in dry indoor locations behind a compatible plate. Confirm suitability with the installing electrician before purchase.
