The Leatherman 831557 is a 17-tool multi-tool built entirely in stainless steel. The tool set covers pliers, replaceable wire and hard-wire cutters, an electrical crimper, a wire stripper, two 420HC blades, a saw, a file, three screwdrivers and an 8 inch ruler. The 831557 measures 101.6mm closed and weighs 190g.
Four inches closed is the size most people will actually carry. The 831557 fits that class at 190g, yet still carries a crimper, a stripper and three separate blades. Its shape follows the box-like frame of Tim Leatherman's original PST, and the plier jaws are built for strength rather than reach.
The cutters are the part that earns its keep. 154CM inserts lift out of the plier head, so an edge chipped on hard wire is a replacement part rather than a retired tool. That is unusual on a four-inch frame. Every handle tool locks when opened, which covers the blades, saw, file and awl.

The 831557 has no insulation rating. Leatherman publishes no 1000V or VDE certification, which keeps the stripper, cutters and crimper away from live conductors. The crimper has no published die specification, so certified terminations still need a proper crimp tool. Two more points: no sheath ships with the stainless variant, and the plier head does not lock.
