Major Tech | Insulated Adjustable Spanner 1000V 30mm Jaw | Chrome Vanadium Steel
The Major Tech VAS0108 is a 1000V insulated adjustable spanner with a 30mm jaw, made for work on live electrical circuits. The VAS0108 conforms to IEC 60900 and is individually tested to 10,000V, well above its 1000V AC working rating. It is made from chrome vanadium steel and measures 200mm, turning bolts and nuts up to 30mm in confined spaces.
Live distribution panels and switchboards present a mixture of nut and bolt sizes, from gland nuts to earth-bar terminations and lug fixings. Carrying a separate insulated spanner for every size quickly fills a tool bag and adds unnecessary weight. A bare adjustable spanner near energised busbars introduces a phase-fault risk if the jaw slips during adjustment. The Major Tech VAS0108 accommodates fixings up to 30mm with a single fully insulated tool rated to 1000V AC.
Licensed electricians select an insulated adjustable spanner so their live-work kit remains compact and audit-ready. The VAS0108 is marked to IEC 60900 and individually tested to 10,000V, which supports safe-work method statements for energised maintenance. Its chrome vanadium steel jaw retains the set dimension under load, so the tool does not slip off the flats during a turn. A single adjustable spanner replaces several fixed sizes, reducing the weight carried up a ladder or into a ceiling cavity.
Features
- 30mm jaw capacity — the VAS0108 adjusts to grip bolt and nut heads from small fixings up to 30mm across the flats.
- 1000V AC insulated — the handle and body are insulated for direct use on live conductors up to 1000V AC.
- Tested to 10,000V — every VAS0108 is individually tested to 10,000V, giving a wide margin over the 1000V working rating.
- IEC 60900 compliant — conforms to IEC 60900, the standard for hand tools insulated for live working up to 1000V.
- Chrome vanadium steel — the jaw and body resist wear and hold torque through repeated adjustment and tightening.
- 200mm length — the compact body reaches nuts in tight enclosures while fitting a standard tool pouch or kit.
- Adjustable worm drive — the thumb wheel sets the jaw to the exact size, so one tool replaces a set of fixed spanners.
- Single-tool coverage — the VAS0108 spans a range of fastener sizes, reducing the number of spanners carried on a job.
- Insulated grip — the coated handle guards against accidental contact with adjacent live parts during the turn.
- Jaw limit — the maximum opening is 30mm; the VAS0108 will not fit nuts or bolt heads larger than this.
- Voltage limit — rated to 1000V AC only; do not use the spanner above this voltage or on damaged insulation.
- Light to carry — at around 300 grams the tool adds little weight to a live-work bag or ladder-top pouch.
Where to use
- Switchboard and panel work — tightening earth-bar bolts, neutral-link nuts, and gland fixings while the board stays live.
- Cable gland nuts — the VAS0108 grips the range of gland and locknut sizes found on enclosures and glanded cables.
- Isolators and main switches — adjusting the mechanical fixings on isolating switches and main-switch mounts during energised work.
- Meter box maintenance — a compact spanner for the assorted nut sizes inside crowded meter boxes and service panels.
- Solar and DC array fixings — the VAS0108 handles the mechanical nuts on PV mounting, isolators, and combiner enclosures.
- Field service and second fix — one adjustable spanner for technicians who cannot carry a full set of fixed sizes.
- Compact live-work kits — suits electricians building a light insulated kit for live maintenance and fault-finding.
The Major Tech VAS0108 is rated to 1000V AC only and must not be used on circuits beyond this limit. Do not use the spanner if the insulation is cut, cracked, or worn, as damaged insulation removes its live-work protection. The jaw opens to 30mm maximum and will not fit larger fixings.
