The Schneider Electric ATS01N103FT is an Altistart 01 soft starter rated 3A for asynchronous motors, with a rated supply range of 110 to 480V AC. The ATS01N103FT starts motors to 1.1kW on three phase at 400V and to 0.37kW on single phase at 230V. It measures 100 x 23 x 100mm, mounts on 35mm DIN rail, and carries an integrated bypass.
Direct on line starting applies full torque the instant the contactor closes, and the mechanical shock transmits through belts, couplings and gearboxes on every start. On a fractional kilowatt drive the consequence is snapped belts, jerked product and premature bearing wear. A voltage ramp start accelerates the motor over an adjustable interval instead of a single step. Starting torque adjustable from 30 to 80 percent of the direct on line figure allows the ramp to suit the driven load.
Rail width is the constraint on a crowded control panel, and a starter occupying 23mm installs in the gap a single pole device would take. The integrated bypass removes the thyristors from circuit once the motor is running, reducing dissipation to 4W at full load. Commissioning uses two adjustments, starting time and starting torque, so setup takes minutes rather than a parameter list. Schneider publishes an 18 month contractual warranty on the ATS01N103FT.
The ATS01N103FT is an IP20 device and must be installed inside a switchboard or enclosure providing the required degree of protection. Schneider's connection schema specifies a line contactor in the starting sequence. The starter does not replace the switching and protection devices ahead of it. Operation above 40 degrees Celsius requires current derating of 2 percent per degree, and altitudes above 1000 metres require further derating.

Schneider publishes 1.1kW for three phase at 400V, and 0.55kW or 0.37kW for three phase at 230V depending on the motor. Single phase at 230V is rated to 0.37kW. The AC-3 range runs 1.1 to 2kW at 380 to 440V three phase.
Schneider's three phase connection schema shows a line contactor in the starting sequence, along with a motor circuit breaker and control protection fuses. The soft starter controls acceleration, it does not provide the isolation, short circuit protection or overload protection those devices deliver.
Cage type connectors take up to 2.5 square millimetre rigid or flexible conductors on both the power and control circuits, with 1 square millimetre where two conductors share a terminal. Tightening torque is 0.8 newton metres. Check the conductor size against the motor circuit design before terminating.
A direct on line starter connects the motor straight to full supply voltage, drawing full inrush and applying full torque immediately. A soft starter ramps the voltage so torque builds progressively. That reduces mechanical shock through belts, couplings and gearboxes, and lowers the current disturbance on the supply.
The control circuit accepts 24V AC or DC at 25mA, 110V AC at 30mA, or 240V AC at 65mA, each within plus or minus 10 percent. Match the control voltage to the supply already established on the panel before wiring the start command.
Two adjustments cover commissioning. Starting time sets between 1 and 5 seconds, and starting torque sets between 30 and 80 percent of the torque the motor develops on a direct on line start. A longer ramp with lower initial torque suits higher inertia loads such as fans.
Rated operation runs from minus 10 to 40 degrees Celsius with no derating. Between 40 and 50 degrees, current derates by 2 percent per degree. Above 1000 metres altitude a further derating of 2.2 percent per additional 100 metres applies. Storage range is minus 25 to 70 degrees.
Schneider publishes an 18 month contractual warranty on the ATS01N103FT, running from the invoice date and handled by return to Sparky Direct. Coverage applies to manufacturing defects. Warranty is void where installation was not carried out by a licensed electrician, or where the unit was operated outside its published ratings.
