Learn more by watching our Hager CDA240T | 2 Pole 40A RCD 6ka 30ma video.
The Hager CDA240T is a two pole residual current device rated 40A with 30mA earth leakage sensitivity, mounted on symmetrical DIN rail. The CDA240T is a Type A device, so it detects both AC and pulsating DC earth leakage currents. It complies with AS/NZS 61008-1 and carries a rated conditional short circuit current of 6kA.
Replacing a failed safety switch on an existing board starts with matching the footprint of the old unit. The CDA240T takes two modules at 83mm high, 35mm wide and 70mm deep, the standard modular size most Australian residential boards are built around. Line and load terminals are non sensitive, so swapping in over another brand does not force a rewire of the incoming and outgoing conductors.
Contractors carry the CDA240T because one part number covers most domestic sub main and mixed circuit work at 40A with 30mA sensitivity. Terminals accept 25mm2 rigid or 16mm2 flexible conductors under screw connection, so mains tails land without a reducer. The device clips onto symmetrical DIN rail and torques to 2.8Nm, which keeps fit off time short on a board upgrade.
The Hager CDA240T is not an overcurrent protective device. It does not replace a circuit breaker or an RCBO, and the circuits it feeds still need overload and short circuit protection. The device is rated IP20 in open air, so it is not suitable for direct exposure to weather, dust or moisture and must be installed inside a switchboard or enclosure by a licensed electrician.

(CDA240T)
The Hager CDA240T is manufactured to IEC 61008-1 and AS/NZS 61008-1, the standard covering residual current operated circuit breakers without integral overcurrent protection. It is a Type A device with 30mA residual operating current and a 6kA rated conditional short circuit current.
The CDA240T clips onto symmetrical DIN rail and occupies two modules, 35mm of rail width. Screw terminals accept 25mm2 rigid or 16mm2 flexible conductors and are tightened to 2.8Nm. Installation must be carried out by a licensed electrician.
Line and load terminals on this unit are non sensitive, so supply can land at either the top or the bottom. That means an existing board can usually keep its current wiring arrangement when the old unit comes out, provided the module width and neutral position suit.
A Type AC device only detects sinusoidal AC earth leakage. A Type A device detects sinusoidal AC plus pulsating DC leakage, which is produced by electronic loads such as chargers, inverters and variable speed drives. This unit is Type A.
No overcurrent protection is built into a residual current circuit breaker of this design. It monitors earth leakage only. Overload and short circuit protection for the connected circuits must come from separate circuit breakers, sized and coordinated by the installing electrician.
The 40A rating holds up to 40 degrees Celsius ambient. Above that the manufacturer derates the device: 38A at 45 degrees, 37A at 50 degrees, 34A at 55 degrees and 30A at 60 degrees. Board ventilation matters in hot roof spaces and metal enclosures.
Warranty runs two years for domestic use and two years for commercial use, starting from the invoice date. The warranty method is return to Sparky Direct. Warranty cover is void if the product is not installed by a licensed electrician.
The Hager CDA240T is available online from Sparky Direct, with Australia-wide delivery to any state or territory including regional areas. Sparky Direct is an Australian electrical wholesaler established in 2005, supplying more than 500,000 customers with transparent trade pricing.
