The Alpha HSV22 is a 22mm bi-metal holesaw blade with a 38mm cutting depth, built from 8% cobalt bi-metal. The HSV22 is supplied as a blade only and uses an international standard thread pattern that accepts common holesaw arbors. It cuts steel, stainless steel, cast iron, non-ferrous metal, wood and plastic.
Cutting an accurate 22mm entry through a switchboard gland plate, a light gauge steel stud or Colorbond sheeting takes a cutter that holds its tooth geometry beyond the first few holes. Cheaper holesaws round off, bind in the kerf and leave a burred edge that needs deburring before a gland or bush will seat. The HSV22 combines 8% cobalt bi-metal teeth with a 4/6 variable tooth pitch that reduces vibration through the material. Its 38mm cutting depth clears sheet metal, structural timber and plastic enclosure walls in a single pass.
The HSV22 is not rated for masonry, concrete, brick or tile, and the bi-metal tooth configuration is unsuitable for abrasive materials. It is supplied as a blade only, so it needs a separately purchased arbor and pilot drill. Running the blade above the recommended speed for the material accelerates tooth wear.
(HSV22)
The HSV22 cuts steel, stainless steel, cast iron, non-ferrous metal, wood and plastic. The 8% cobalt bi-metal tooth edge takes mixed materials with one blade. It is not made for masonry, concrete, brick or tile.
Cutting depth is 38mm, measured on the usable length of the blade body. That covers gland plates, sheet metal, light gauge steel studs, plastic enclosure walls and most timber sections in a single pass.
The blade is supplied on its own, with no arbor or pilot drill included. It mounts on an arbor bought separately. The international standard thread pattern accepts common arbors, including the type already fitted to most electricians' holesaw kits.
Recommended speeds are 195 rpm for tool steel and stainless, 260 rpm for cast iron, 390 rpm for mild steel, 520 rpm for brass, 585 rpm for aluminium and 3000 rpm for wood. Harder materials need slower speeds.
Variable tooth geometry spaces the teeth unevenly, which breaks up the vibration pattern behind chatter in a fixed pitch blade. The cut runs smoother and the hole comes out truer, particularly when moving between metal, timber and plastic on the same job.
Blade life depends on the material, the drill speed and how hot the cut runs. Cobalt bi-metal teeth hold an edge longer in steel than plain carbon blades, and the multiple grinding technology extends cutting life. Running at the recommended speed for the material is what stretches it furthest.
