Brooks | RadioLINK Alarm Base 230V AC Mains Powered | 926MHz RF Interconnect

The Brooks EIB168RC is a mains-powered alarm base rated 230V AC 50Hz, supplied with a rechargeable lithium battery backup and a built-in RadioLINK circuit. It mounts a compatible RadioLINK alarm and links that alarm to the rest of the system over a 926MHz wireless interconnect. The EIB168RC carries module approval to AS/NZS 4268:2012, with interconnection covered under NZS 4514:2021.

Adding an alarm point to an existing hardwired system means pulling interconnect cable across a finished ceiling, which is slow work in an occupied house. A base with a built-in 926MHz RadioLINK circuit removes that cable run, because the new alarm joins the system over RF wireless interconnect instead. Mixed installs are common on extensions and renovations, where part of the house is wired and part is not. Fitting one base to an existing alarm and further bases to the new alarms house-codes the whole lot into a single hybrid system.

Retrofit work moves faster when the interconnect runs over RF instead of through the ceiling cavity. The EIB168RC connects to the mains supply at the alarm point and house-codes into the existing system, so a compliance upgrade does not turn into a rewire quote. Remote test, locate and silence functions run from floor level when RadioLINK controllers or switches sit on the system, which cuts ladder time on service calls. Stocking one base type keeps the van simple, since each alarm added to the wireless section takes the same EIB168RC base.

        Features

        • 926MHz RadioLINK interconnect — links alarms wirelessly, so a trigger on one alarm sounds every alarm in the system.
        • Mains powered with battery backup — runs on 230V AC 50Hz with a rechargeable lithium cell and a visual low battery indicator.
        • Multi-path, multi-repeater mesh — the proprietary RadioLINK protocol routes signals through a mesh architecture rather than relying on a single hop.
        • House-coding security — a coding function locks the system to its own devices, blocking interference from other RF systems and preventing interference in the other direction.
        • Twelve-device system size — up to 12 RadioLINK devices sit on one system, with the manufacturer to be consulted where an install needs more.
        • RF range over 100 metres — free-air range exceeds 100 metres at +5dBm, with obstructions reducing that figure depending on the building.
        • Remote control support — optional RadioLINK remote controllers and switches enable remote test, remote locate and remote silence from floor level.
        • Hybrid system expansion — an existing hardwired interconnected system takes wireless points without further interconnect cable through the ceiling.
        • Fault and RF indication — the EIB168RC signals RF activity and fault conditions through a blue LED on the base.
        • Flame retardant housing — the base is moulded in UL94VO rated plastic.
        • Low installed profile — the EIB168RC measures 150mm across and 37mm deep, sitting 20mm proud once installed.
        • Temperature and humidity limits — normal operating and storage range is 0 to 40 degrees C at 15 to 95 percent relative humidity, non-condensing.

        Where to use

        • Renovations and extensions — the EIB168RC brings new alarm points into an existing system without interconnect cable through finished ceilings.
        • Two-storey homes — upper and lower floor alarms interconnect over RF where a cable path between levels is not practical.
        • Rental compliance upgrades — the EIB168RC lets an alarm count increase between tenancies without opening up ceilings.
        • Outbuildings within RF range — granny flats, studios and detached garages join the main dwelling system where free-air range allows.
        • Service and maintenance calls — remote test and locate from floor level suits properties where ladder access is awkward.
        • Hybrid wired and wireless systems — one EIB168RC on an existing alarm and further bases on new alarms bring both halves onto one house code.
        • Multi-alarm dwellings — properties needing several interconnected points run up to 12 RadioLINK devices on a single system.

The EIB168RC is not a smoke alarm and detects nothing on its own: it is a base that mounts and interconnects a compatible alarm head. The datasheet publishes no IP rating for the base, and its stated operating band covers 0 to 40 degrees C at 15 to 95 percent relative humidity, non-condensing. Locations outside that band, including damp or condensing environments, fall outside the manufacturer's normal operating conditions and can shorten product life.

        (EIB168RC)

The EIB168RC carries module approval to AS/NZS 4268:2012, the standard covering short range radio devices. Interconnection is covered under NZS 4514:2021. The base is not a detector, so the alarm head fitted to it carries its own product approval.

Installation must be carried out by a licensed electrician. The EIB168RC connects to a 230V AC 50Hz mains supply and functions as the mounting plate for a compatible alarm. Wiring, mounting and house-coding are all completed at installation.

The base works with compatible mains-powered RadioLINK alarms and with RadioLINK remote controllers and switches. Compatibility is listed on each alarm's own datasheet, so check that documentation before ordering to confirm the alarm head suits this base.

House-coding assigns a shared code to every RadioLINK device on the system. Only devices carrying that code talk to each other, which stops interference from nearby RF systems and stops the system interfering with them. Up to 12 RadioLINK devices sit on one code.

Free-air RF range is more than 100 metres at +5dBm on 926MHz. Walls, floors, foil insulation and other obstructions reduce that figure, so real-world range depends on the building. Plan device positions around the structure rather than the free-air number.

The datasheet lists a five year limited warranty on the EIB168RC. The period runs from the date of purchase, so keep the invoice as proof. Warranty cover applies to manufacturing faults in the base itself.

The base is supplied on its own. An alarm head is required to complete the point, and remote test, locate and silence functions need a compatible RadioLINK remote control device on the system. Those items are ordered separately.
