        CAgroup | Resin Cored Solder Wire 1.6mm 60/40 | 500g Reel

The CAgroup 01500 is a resin cored solder wire, 1.6 mm in diameter, supplied on a 500 g reel. The alloy is 60/40, marked Sn 60 Pb 40: 60 per cent tin and 40 per cent lead. The 01500 is one of eight wire diameters CAgroup produces across its cored solder range, which runs from 0.56 mm up to 3.2 mm.

Solder work across an electrical job runs from tinning stranded ends to filling larger joints on lugs and tails. Wire that is too fine burns off before the joint comes up to heat, while heavy gauge floods small terminals. The 01500 sits at 1.6 mm diameter, mid-way through the 0.56 mm to 3.2 mm range CAgroup produces. Flux is carried inside the wire core, which is what the term cored solder describes.

        Features

        • 60/40 tin-lead alloy — the 01500 carries 60 per cent tin and 40 per cent lead, one of six alloys CAgroup produces in cored wire.
        • 1.6 mm wire diameter — a mid-range gauge that feeds enough metal for general hand soldering without swamping small terminals.
        • 500 g net weight — the 01500 is supplied as a single reel carrying 500 g of wire.
        • Resin flux core — the flux inside the 01500 is resin based, not acid based.
        • Type 35 resin core flux — the 01500 carries Type 35 flux, specified at 0.5 per cent halide.
        • Meets Australian standards — the alloys used across the CAgroup cored wire range meet relevant Australian, British and other standards.
        • Contains lead — at 40 per cent lead this is not a lead-free alloy, so handling and ventilation precautions apply during use.

        Where to use

        • Electrical work — the electrical industry is a listed application for the 01500, covering hand-soldered joints and tinned conductor ends.
        • Automotive work — the automotive industry is a listed application, covering loom repairs and joints made with a hand iron.
        • Electronic work — the electronics industry is a listed application, though the 1.6 mm gauge of the 01500 suits larger joints rather than fine board work.
        • General engineering — general engineering is a listed application, covering fabrication and repair soldering on the bench.

The 01500 is a leaded alloy carrying 40 per cent lead. It is not a lead-free solder and cannot be used where a lead-free alloy is specified. The flux core is resin based, so the 01500 is not an acid core wire and does not suit work calling for acid flux.

        (01500)

The first figure is the percentage of tin and the second is lead, so 60/40 means 60 per cent tin and 40 per cent lead. The reel itself is marked Sn 60 Pb 40.

The 01500 is a cored wire, so the flux is carried inside the wire rather than supplied separately. The core is resin based and the flux grade is Type 35, specified at 0.5 per cent halide.

No. The 60/40 alloy contains 40 per cent lead, so it is not a lead-free solder and is not suitable where a lead-free alloy is specified. Normal handling and ventilation precautions for leaded solder apply.

The reel carries a net weight of 500 g of 1.6 mm wire. Net weight refers to the solder itself and does not include the weight of the reel.
