The Clipsal L5504RVF is a C-Bus relay unit providing four voltage-free output channels, rated 10A at 240V AC and mounted on DIN rail. Its contacts are magnetically latched and carry no supply of their own, so each channel operates as a clean switch into a separate circuit. The L5504RVF includes a built-in C-Bus power supply, connects to the network through RJ45 sockets, and provides 3.75kV electrical isolation between the C-Bus and mains sides.
C-Bus handles lighting circuits without difficulty, but plenty of what a job needs to control is not a C-Bus load at all. A building management input, a plant contactor coil, an irrigation valve, a gate controller, or a circuit on a different phase all need switching without the relay imposing its own potential. Voltage-free contacts answer that: the channel closes a circuit that belongs to somebody else's system, and the 3.75kV isolation keeps the C-Bus side separate from the mains side.
The unit is configured to reduce what else the switchboard requires. A built-in C-Bus power supply means a smaller network may not require a separate supply unit, while the magnetically latched contacts maintain position without continuous coil energisation. Terminations remain conventional: screw terminals accepting 2 x 1.5mm2 or 1 x 2.5mm2 conductors, with RJ45 sockets for the network connection and a 400mm CAT5E lead supplied.

The L5504RVF is a C-Bus network device, not a standalone relay. It requires a functioning C-Bus network and commissioning through C-Bus software, so it will not operate as a general-purpose four-channel relay on its own. A maximum of ten units per network applies, and motor loads are limited to 2A rather than the 10A resistive rating. Ambient conditions must stay within 0 to 45 degrees C, and installation must be carried out by a licensed electrician.
