The DNS11 reads ambient light through a photocell and holds an adjustable switching threshold between 5 and 50 lux. Exterior lighting left on a manual switch either burns all night or gets forgotten until someone walks an unlit site after dark. A photocell removes that decision from the occupant: the contacts close when illumination drops and reopen at first light. Turn the lux knob on the sensor body. The moon position switches the load on when ambient light drops below about 5 lux, and the sun position brings it on at around 50 lux. To bench test in daylight, cover the detection window with a black opaque cloth.
The working range is minus 20 to plus 40 degrees Celsius at relative humidity below 93 per cent, and the IP65 enclosure keeps out dust and low pressure water jets. IP65 is not a submersion rating, so avoid positions that flood or sit under running water.
