The Major Tech PIR33 is a 360 degree ceiling-mounted PIR motion sensor rated 220 to 240V AC, for indoor use at IP20. It switches lights or another connected load when it picks up movement and body heat within 6 metres. The PIR33 carries an adjustable lux threshold from under 3 up to 2000 lux and a time delay from 10 seconds to 15 minutes. It is built to AS/NZS 60669.1 and AS/NZS 60669.2.1.
A light left running in an empty corridor or store room draws power for nothing. The PIR33 switches the circuit when movement is detected and drops it again after the set delay. The lux threshold holds the sensor off while there is enough daylight in the space, down to a setting of 3 lux. Every fresh detection restarts the delay, so the light stays on while the space is in use.
The PIR33 lands in a 64mm ceiling cut-out and wires to a terminal block on the base. The fixing bracket unscrews from the base, so it screws to the ceiling before the sensor goes back on. Several sensors can be wired on the same lighting circuit where one unit will not cover the run. Both the time and lux settings are knob adjustments on the unit, so commissioning is done at the ceiling on install.
The PIR33 is rated IP20 and is not suitable outdoors or in wet and damp locations. Do not mount it near heating vents, air conditioning outlets or light fittings, and keep it clear of mirrors and other highly reflective surfaces. Curtains and tall plants that move in a draught can also trigger it, and the sensor will not detect through glass or walls.

Installation must be carried out by a licensed electrician. The sensor wires to 220 to 240V AC through a terminal block in its base and drops into a 64mm ceiling cut-out, with the fixing bracket screwed to the ceiling first. Warranty is void if a licensed electrician does not install it.
Up to 600W of LED or CFL lighting, or 1200W of incandescent. The sensor itself draws under 0.9W while powered. Add up the total connected load against those figures before wiring more than one fitting through the one sensor.
The LUX knob sets the ambient light level at which the sensor operates, from under 3 lux up to 2000 lux. The TIME knob sets the run-on delay through six steps: 10 seconds, 30 seconds, 90 seconds, 3 minutes, 7 minutes and 15 minutes.
Detection covers a full 360 degrees around the sensor out to 6 metres, for movement between 0.6 and 1.5 metres per second. Walking straight at the sensor can be missed, because a passive infrared unit reads movement crossing its beams rather than travelling along them.
The IP20 rating is for indoor use, so outdoor and damp locations are out. Keep it clear of heating vents, air conditioning outlets and light fittings, away from mirrors and reflective surfaces, and away from curtains or tall plants that move in a draught.
The sensor is built to AS/NZS 60669.1 and AS/NZS 60669.2.1, and to the equivalent IEC 60669-1 and IEC 60669-2-1. Supply is 220 to 240V AC at 50 or 60Hz, and the working temperature range runs from -20 to 40 degrees Celsius.
