The Solar Lighting Designs SOLB017 is an asymmetrical solar bollard from the Eris range, rated approximately 280 lumens at 4000K from a 1.5W SMD3030 LED. The SOLB017 stands 800mm high on an internally locking baseplate, and runs from a 6.2W solar panel with a 38.4Wh LiFePO4 battery. Autonomy is more than 3 nights. The fitting carries an IP65 waterproof rating and is compliant with Australian Standard P4.
A conventional bollard radiates its output symmetrically in every direction. Most of that light lands in the garden bed, the adjacent glazing, or the eyes of the person approaching, and none of those surfaces is the pedestrian route. The battery finances all of it regardless. The SOLB017 resolves the problem optically rather than electrically. An asymmetrical light pattern directs the output sideways along the walkway, so a 1.5W LED illuminates the trafficable surface and leaves the remainder dark.
The staged program is the second half of the same efficiency argument. The SOLB017 maintains 100% output for the first 4 hours, then reduces to 30% until the PIR detects movement and returns to full illumination on approach. Ambient light remains on the path overnight while the available charge is reserved for the intervals that require it. Assembly is twist and lock, the on/off switch is concealed, and the baseplate locks internally, so the installed bollard presents no accessible fastener.
