Major Tech | MT915 2-in-1 Cable Finder and Multimeter 600V | CAT III 600V Rated

The Major Tech MT915 is a 2-in-1 cable finder and digital multimeter rated to 600V AC and DC, supplied as a matched transmitter and receiver pair. The MT915 identifies up to 16 individual cores in a multi-core cable and shows the matching cable number on a two-digit LED receiver display. The multimeter side measures AC and DC voltage, AC and DC current, resistance, continuity and diode test. Safety rating is IEC 61010-1, CAT III 600V and CAT II 1000V.

Belling out a multi-core run is normally a two-person job, or repeated trips between both ends with a continuity buzzer. The MT915 puts a transmitter on one end and lets a single electrician read the matching core at the other, identifying up to 16 cables in one pass. On patch panels and wall plates, the remote kit extends testing over long cable runs where physical access to both ends is impractical. The same instrument then handles 600V AC and DC measurement, so a separate multimeter stays in the toolbag.

Cutting bell-out time off a rewire or a data installation converts half a day of core identification into a single trip down the cable. The MT915 suits fault-finding and switchboard maintenance where labour represents the dominant cost, not the instrument. Carrying one device instead of a separate tracer and multimeter also reduces toolbag weight on service calls. The rubber holster and 2000-count display withstand normal handling between jobs.

        Features

        • 16-channel cable identification — the transmitter carries 16 numbered crocodile clips plus one common, so one person can match cores at either end of a multi-core cable.
        • Two-digit LED receiver — the blue LED display shows the cable number directly, removing the guesswork of matching cores by tone or continuity buzzer.
        • 600V AC and DC voltage — ranges run from 200mV to 600V, with stated accuracy of +/-(1.0% + 3 digits) on DC and +/-(1.0% + 5 digits) on AC.
        • Current measurement to 200mA — AC and DC current ranges run from 200.0uA to 200.0mA, suited to control and signal circuits rather than load current.
        • Resistance to 20M ohm — the MT915 measures from 200 ohm to 20M ohm at +/-(1.2% + 3 digits), covering continuity and component checks on low-voltage circuits.
        • Continuity and diode test — both functions sit on the same rotary range selector, so broken cores and faulty diodes can be checked without swapping instruments.
        • 2000-count digital display — the multimeter reads to 2000 counts and carries a backlight for dark risers, ceiling spaces and switchboard cupboards.
        • Min and max capture — the MT915 holds minimum and maximum readings, which helps when a fault is intermittent and the display cannot be watched continuously.
        • Cable finder loop rating — the finder works on cable resistance up to 30k ohm at 1.8mA, covering typical building and data cable runs.
        • High input impedance — greater than 7.5M ohm on both AC and DC voltage ranges, which limits circuit loading during measurement.
        • Rubber holster supplied — the instrument ships in a moulded rubber holster that takes knocks in the toolbag and on site.
        • CAT III 600V ceiling — certified to IEC 61010-1, CAT III 600V and CAT II 1000V, so the MT915 is not rated for CAT IV positions.

        Where to use

        • Multi-core cable identification — matching numbered cores at either end of a run in a switchboard, riser, wall cavity or ceiling space.
        • Patch panels and wall plates — the MT915 remote kit tests cables installed over long distances without needing access to both ends at once.
        • Data and comms rough-in — labelling and verifying numbered runs before termination on outlets, panels and racks.
        • Fault-finding on existing installations — the MT915 traces a suspect core, then measures voltage, resistance or continuity on the same call.
        • Switchboard and control wiring — checking control voltages and low-current signal circuits during commissioning and routine maintenance.
        • Service and maintenance vehicles — one instrument covers tracing and general measurement, reducing what has to be carried in to each job.
        • Second-fix and apprentice work — the numbered receiver display makes core matching straightforward for less experienced hands.

The MT915 is not rated for CAT IV positions such as the origin of the installation or overhead service conductors. Current measurement stops at 200.0mA, so the MT915 cannot quantify load current on power or lighting subcircuits. The instrument carries no stated ingress protection rating, making it unsuitable for wet, washdown or heavy dust environments.

        (MT915)

Certification is to IEC 61010-1, CAT III 600V and CAT II 1000V. That covers distribution wiring, switchboards and fixed installation circuits. The MT915 is not rated for CAT IV positions such as the origin of the installation or overhead service conductors.

The transmitter clips onto the cores at one end of a multi-core cable using 16 numbered crocodile clips plus one common. The receiver is then touched to each core at the far end and shows the matching number on its two-digit LED display.

Up to 16 individual cores can be identified in a single pass, using the 16 numbered clips and one common connection. Cable resistance up to 30k ohm at 1.8mA is supported, which covers typical building and data cable runs.

AC and DC voltage from 200mV to 600V, AC and DC current from 200.0uA to 200.0mA, and resistance from 200 ohm to 20M ohm. Continuity and diode test are included, along with a 2000-count display, backlight, and minimum and maximum capture.

One 9V battery and two AAA batteries power the instrument, and both are supplied in the box with the transmitter, receiver and instruction manual. No charging dock or mains connection is needed.

Current ranges stop at 200.0mA, so load current on power and lighting subcircuits sits outside the measuring range. The current function suits control, signal and low-current electronic circuits. A clamp meter is the correct instrument for measuring load current on final subcircuits.

Two years for both domestic and commercial use, starting from the invoice date. Claims are returned to Sparky Direct, which forwards the meter to Major Tech's authorised service centre for inspection and testing. Confirmed manufacturing defects are repaired or replaced at no cost.
