Learn more by watching our Major Tech MT965 | Digital Vibration Meter video.
The Major Tech MT965 is a handheld digital vibration meter that measures acceleration, velocity, and displacement on rotating and reciprocating machinery. A shear-type piezoelectric ceramic accelerometer senses vibration across 10Hz to 1kHz, with a selectable 1kHz to 4kHz high-frequency band for acceleration. The MT965 reads acceleration from 0.1 to 199.9m/s², velocity from 0.1 to 199.9mm/s, and displacement from 0.001 to 1.999mm, each rated ±10%. A colour LCD rotates through 360 degrees, presents all three readings simultaneously, and stores 500 data points across five groups for later review.
Bearing wear, shaft misalignment, and structural looseness all announce themselves as rising vibration long before a machine actually fails. Judging that rise by hand or by ear puts the call on experience alone, and marginal machines slip through until they stop mid-shift. The MT965 puts a number and a colour-coded severity bar against each measurement, graded to the machine power level you set, from small motors below 15kW to large sets above 75kW. Switching between high and low frequency bands separates high-frequency energy from general running vibration on the same machine.
For a tech doing motor changeovers and pump alignments, a before-and-after reading turns an invoice line into proof the job worked. The rotating display and second measure button on the base keep readings usable when the meter points down into a coupling guard or under a fan housing. Interchangeable short and long probes reach recessed measurement points, and both come off for flat-surface contact on a machine foot. Stored groups hold 100 readings each, so a full plant round survives in the meter until it is written up.
The MT965 operates within 0°C to 40°C at 30-90% relative humidity and must not be immersed in water or exposed to strong impacts. Keep the meter away from dangerous voltage, flammable atmospheres, and anything that could catch on rotating equipment during a reading. No ingress protection rating is published, so treat the meter as a dry-conditions instrument only.
(MT965)
Acceleration from 0.1 to 199.9m/s², velocity from 0.1 to 199.9mm/s, and displacement from 0.001 to 1.999mm, each with ±10% accuracy. A shear-type piezoelectric ceramic accelerometer does the sensing, and the colour display shows all three readings simultaneously with a live graph curve.
Acceleration measurement switches between a low band of 10Hz to 1kHz and a high band of 1kHz to 4kHz, selected with the frequency button. Velocity and displacement always measure on the low band. If an acceleration value will not read, the manual suggests switching bands.
A status bar across the bottom of the full display grades vibration velocity as green, yellow, orange, or red. The grading follows the machine power level set in the menu: small below 15kW, medium 15-75kW, or large above 75kW on a hard or soft base.
The short probe suits most general vibration measurements and gives improved response values. The long probe, included in the package, reaches narrow or recessed points with faster response. Removing the probe entirely lets the MT965 sit flat against a surface for the most stable readings.
Up to 500 data points in five groups of 100, with a 20-point live cache during measurement. Stored groups replay as acceleration, velocity, and displacement charts on the meter, and groups can be deleted singly or all at once from the File menu.
Two 1.5V AAA batteries in a battery compartment. An automatic shutdown timer is adjustable from 0 to 9 minutes to save power, the meter shuts itself down on low battery, and the manual recommends removing the batteries during long storage periods.
