        Major Tech | Pocket Thermal Imager 256x192px 25Hz | -20°C to 550°C Measurement Range

The Major Tech MTi5 is a handheld pocket thermal imager with a 256 x 192 pixel infrared detector, a 25Hz image frequency, and a 3.5 inch 640 x 480 touch screen. It measures object temperatures across a low range of -20°C to 150°C and a high range of 0°C to 550°C, with rated accuracy of ±2°C or ±2% of reading. The MTi5 weighs under 500 grams, measures 133 x 87 x 24mm, and records thermal stills and MPEG-4 video to an 8GB micro SD card and 3.4GB internal memory. Wi-Fi 802.11 and USB-C transfer images and live video to PC and smart devices running the Thermal-X software.

A thermal camera only diagnoses faults if it is actually on the truck when the callout comes in. The MTi5 is a pocket-sized 133 x 87 x 24mm unit under 500 grams, small enough to live in the tool bag rather than back at the workshop. Its focus-free lens has the imager pointed and reading within seconds, while the 2 metre drop-tested housing handles the knocks that accompany daily site work.

For contractors selling predictive maintenance and thermographic inspection work, the MTi5 carries the whole reporting chain in one pocket unit. It stores over 6,000 images with embedded measurement data plus more than 60 minutes of MPEG-4 video with audio. The Thermal-X app builds PDF reports on a phone or tablet, and live video streams to a PC over Wi-Fi or USB-C for client walk-throughs. A fault located, captured, and documented in a single visit keeps inspection work profitable.

        Features

        • 256 x 192 pixel infrared detector — the uncooled microbolometer gives the MTi5 25Hz thermal imaging with NETD below 0.04°C, resolving small temperature differences across a scene.
        • Dual measurement ranges — -20°C to 150°C and 0°C to 550°C with rated accuracy of ±2°C or ±2% of reading; the low range is the more accurate choice where the two overlap.
        • Focus-free lens — a 62° x 46.5° field of view with a 0.5 metre minimum focus distance and 1-32x continuous digital zoom.
        • Five image modes — infrared, visual, picture-in-picture, auto fusion, and zoom, drawing on the built-in 2 megapixel visual camera.
        • Twelve colour palettes — eight standard options including Iron, Rainbow, Grey Inverted, and Hot-Cold, plus four alarm palettes with adjustable high, low, and zone thresholds.
        • Full analysis toolset — centre spot, 3 manual spots, automatic hot and cold markers, and 3 area plus 2 line analyses run on the MTi5 touch screen.
        • Measurement corrections — adjustable emissivity, reflected temperature, ambient temperature, humidity, and distance compensation sharpen readings on low-emissivity targets.
        • Deep on-board storage — more than 6,000 JPEG or HIR images with measurement data and over 60 minutes of MPEG-4 video across the 8GB micro SD card and 3.4GB internal memory.
        • Wi-Fi and USB-C output — 802.11 Wi-Fi streams images and real-time video to the Thermal-X app, with USB-C handling charging, data, and live video to a PC.
        • 2 metre drop-tested build — with 25g bump and 2g vibration ratings to IEC 60068, at under 500 grams including the battery.
        • 4 hour Li-ion battery — the rechargeable battery runs up to 4 hours, charges in-camera over USB-C, and offers auto power-off settings.
        • Operating limits — rated for -15°C to 50°C ambient and 10 to 90% humidity; never point the lens at the sun or laser sources, which can damage the detector.

        Where to use

        • Switchboard and electrical fault-finding — the MTi5 reveals hotspots across terminations, breakers, and connections before they trip or burn.
        • Building and insulation inspections — thermal imaging exposes insulation gaps and temperature anomalies through walls, ceilings, and floors during building checks.
        • Predictive maintenance rounds — scheduled scans document equipment condition over time and flag developing faults before failure.
        • Equipment troubleshooting and verification — before-and-after captures confirm a repair has resolved the heat signature identified on the first scan.
        • Fixed monitoring from a tripod — a tripod insertion hole lets the MTi5 sit on a mount for steady captures and video of a running asset.
        • Dim roof spaces and cabinets — the built-in LED light supports the visual camera where ambient light is poor.
        • On-site client reporting — the Thermal-X app analyses captures and shares PDF reports by email, cloud, or message without leaving site.

The MTi5 is rated for object temperatures up to 550°C and ambient operation between -15°C and 50°C only. Do not point the lens at the sun, lasers, or other intense energy sources, which can damage the detector. Major Tech's manual lists no ingress protection rating, so keep the unit and its battery dry and away from wet exposed conditions.

        (MTi5)

The MTi5 has a 256 x 192 pixel infrared detector with an uncooled microbolometer sensor, refreshing at 25Hz. The 3.5 inch touch screen displays at 640 x 480 pixels, and a 2 megapixel visual camera supports the visual, picture-in-picture, and fusion image modes.

Object temperatures span -20°C to 150°C on the low range and 0°C to 550°C on the high range, with rated accuracy of ±2°C or ±2% of reading. Where the two ranges overlap, the low range gives the more accurate result.

The imager streams real-time video and transfers images over 802.11 Wi-Fi to the Thermal-X app on Android and iOS, and over USB-C to the Thermal-X PC software on Windows 10 or later. The app can analyse captures and share PDF reports.

More than 6,000 JPEG or HIR images with embedded measurement data, and over 60 minutes of MPEG-4 video recorded at 640 x 480 and 30fps with audio. Storage spans the supplied 8GB micro SD card and 3.4GB of internal memory.

The rechargeable Li-ion battery runs up to 4 hours per charge and charges in-camera through the USB-C port from a 5V DC supply. A first charge of three to three and a half hours is recommended before initial use, and auto power-off settings help conserve charge.

The MTi5 carries a 2 year warranty for domestic and commercial use, starting from the invoice date. Lodge a claim by returning the unit to Sparky Direct with proof of purchase; it is then forwarded to Major Tech's authorised service centre for inspection, testing, and calibration. Allow 7 to 14 working days.

The manual lists no ingress protection rating, so the imager should not be treated as weatherproof, and the battery must be kept dry. Operating limits are -15°C to 50°C at 10 to 90% humidity, and the lens must never be pointed at the sun or laser sources.

The Major Tech MTi5 is available online from Sparky Direct, with Australia-wide delivery to any state or territory including regional areas. Sparky Direct is an Australian electrical wholesaler established in 2005, supplying more than 500,000 customers with transparent trade pricing.
