The Volt Safety LOCKOUT-TAG-INFO is a single equipment information tag measuring 147mm by 72mm at 0.6mm thick. It is manufactured from PVC and carries a 10mm eyelet sized to fit most padlock shanks. The LOCKOUT-TAG-INFO complies with AS 4836 and AS 4024.1603, and directs anyone approaching the equipment to read the tag before operating it.
Isolation and out of service tags both carry an identical instruction: do not operate. Plenty of situations do not fit that instruction. Equipment part-way through commissioning, a partly terminated switchboard, or plant restricted to specific operating conditions needs somebody to read something before acting. Keeping clear is not the objective. The LOCKOUT-TAG-INFO covers that gap, with printed prompts and a notes field for the detail that matters.
Because the wording is general rather than a fixed status, one tag accommodates situations that change. The PVC face wipes clean with isopropyl alcohol, so the same tag is rewritten as the job progresses. The 10mm eyelet threads onto a padlock or hangs directly on the equipment, and tear-resistant and weather-resistant stock keeps the note legible while it remains in place.
An information tag asks people to read before acting. It is not a prohibition, so equipment that must not be operated under any circumstances needs isolation or out of service wording instead. The tag also secures nothing and is not a substitute for a lockout device, and it gives no indication that a circuit is de-energised. Testing for absence of voltage remains a separate step by a competent person, and previous detail should be fully erased before a reused tag is rewritten.
