Volt Safety | Electrical Contractor Lockout Tagout Kit Medium | AS 4836 Compliant

The Volt Safety LOCKOUT-KIT-M is a medium lockout tagout kit for electrical contractors isolating switchboards, plant and services. The kit complies with AS 4836 and AS 4024.1603, the Australian standards covering safe working on low voltage installations and machinery isolation. The LOCKOUT-KIT-M lists 23 line items, supplied in a heavy duty bag with multiple compartments.

Isolation fails when the electrician at the switchboard is not the person working downstream on the equipment. Without a lock and a tag applied at every isolation point, a breaker can be re-energised while maintenance is still in progress. A kit covering circuit breakers, plug tops, gate valves and grouped isolators secures the isolation for the duration of the job. Sites running concurrent trades need sufficient hasps and padlocks for every worker to apply a personal lock.

Contractors carry one bag instead of picking lockout devices job by job. The LOCKOUT-KIT-M holds toggle, pin-in, pin-out, multi-pole and tie bar breaker lockouts, so an unfamiliar switchboard rarely stops an isolation. Storage pockets for tags and spare devices keep the bag ordered between jobs and make a missing device obvious at handover. Documented lockout gear also supports the safe work method statements principal contractors ask for.

        Features

        • Six breaker lockout styles — covers toggle, pin-in, pin-out, wide pin-out, no-tool and multi-pole devices, so the LOCKOUT-KIT-M suits mixed-age switchboards.
        • Two hasps supplied — a dielectric 6 hole hasp 25mm x 63mm and an aluminium 6 hole hasp 38mm allow six personal locks on a single isolation point.
        • Four padlocks included — two red 38mm shank padlocks and two yellow 38mm shank padlocks give colour separation between workers or between trades.
        • Plug and IEC lockouts — a universal plug lockout and an IEC plug lockout secure lead-connected equipment that has no fixed isolator.
        • Cable lockout 2m — threads through handles, valve wheels and multiple isolators where a fixed device will not fit.
        • Gate valve lockout 32mm stem — extends the kit past electrical work to gas bottles, water services and process valves.
        • Ten tags supplied — five Out of Service tags and five Do Not Operate tags, with 10 x 200mm cable ties for attachment.
        • 1000V slotted screwdriver 2.5mm — an insulated 2.5mm blade for terminal and cover work at the board.
        • UV resistant marker — writes on tags that stay legible outdoors for the duration of a long isolation.
        • Compartmented heavy duty bag — separates tags, padlocks and breaker devices so a missing item is visible before you leave the yard.
        • AS 4836 and AS 4024.1603 — the kit is stated by Volt Safety to comply with both Australian standards for safe electrical work and machinery isolation.
        • No test instrument supplied — the kit isolates and secures equipment, and proving de-energised still needs a separately rated tester.

        Where to use

        • Industrial switchboard work — the LOCKOUT-KIT-M carries enough breaker devices and hasps for boards worked on by several people at once.
        • Commercial maintenance and shutdowns — planned outages where circuits stay isolated across shifts and tags must survive a full changeover.
        • Plant and machinery isolation — the cable lockout and gate valve lockout secure moving plant, air services and gas bottles alongside the electrical supply.
        • Lead-connected equipment — the universal and IEC plug lockouts hold plug tops on portable machinery and rack gear that has no local isolator.
        • Contractor vehicles — the compartmented bag keeps a complete kit in the ute rather than loose devices spread through a tool bag.
        • Multi-trade construction sites — hasps allow electricians, mechanical fitters and hydraulic trades to apply personal locks to the same isolation point.
        • Solar and switchboard upgrades — the LOCKOUT-KIT-M secures main switches and submains while an existing board is stripped and rebuilt.

The LOCKOUT-KIT-M is isolation equipment rather than test equipment. The kit holds no voltage tester and no insulated gloves, so proving a circuit is de-energised still needs separately rated instruments and PPE. Do not treat an applied lockout device as proof that a circuit is dead, and do not use the kit as a way of working on live gear.

Verified Sparky Direct customer reviews: Volt Safety Electrical Contractor Lockout Tagout Kit Medium (LOCKOUT-KIT-M)

"The bag includes convenient storage pockets for tags and other accessories" — Rob

"Excellent LOTO kit all in one pack to lockout any sort of power utilities" — Zohaib

        (LOCKOUT-KIT-M)

The LOCKOUT-KIT-M complies with AS 4836 and AS 4024.1603. AS 4836 covers safe working on or near low voltage electrical installations. AS 4024.1603 covers the prevention of unexpected start-up during machinery isolation. Both are the standards commonly referenced in Australian lockout tagout procedures.

The kit lists 23 line items. Lockout devices cover six breaker styles, a universal plug lockout, an IEC plug lockout, a 2m cable lockout and a gate valve lockout. Also supplied: two hasps, four padlocks, five Out of Service tags, five Do Not Operate tags, cable ties, a 1000V screwdriver, a marker and the bag.

The bag is red heavy duty material with multiple compartments. Separate compartments hold tags, padlocks and breaker devices, so a missing item is visible before the kit leaves the yard. The bag is sized to carry the full 23 line items with room for extra devices.

Each supplied hasp takes six padlocks, so one isolation point can carry six personal locks. Two hasps are included, covering two separate points at six locks each. Four padlocks are supplied in the kit, so crews larger than four add padlocks to suit their own procedure.

The gate valve lockout suits valves with a 32mm stem, and the 2m cable lockout threads through handles, wheels and grouped isolators. The universal and IEC plug lockouts secure plug-connected machinery. Volt Safety lists valves, gas bottles and circuits as intended applications for this kit.

The kit is built for industrial sites where several workers isolate the same equipment. Each hasp accepts six personal padlocks, and the breaker, plug, cable and valve devices cover switchboards, plant and services. Volt Safety states compliance with AS 4836 and AS 4024.1603 for this application.

One year for domestic use and one year for commercial use, starting from the invoice date. The warranty method is to return to Sparky Direct. Contact Sparky Direct with the order number before returning the kit so they can assess the claim and arrange a return.

The kit contains no voltage tester and no insulated gloves, so proving de-energised requires separately rated test instruments and PPE. Lockout devices secure an isolation point, they do not confirm a circuit is dead. The kit is not intended for use as a means of working on live equipment.

The Volt Safety LOCKOUT-KIT-M is available online from Sparky Direct, with Australia-wide delivery to any state or territory including regional areas.
