        Major Tech | 10kV Insulation Resistance Tester 200GΩ to 2TΩ | CAT IV 600V CAT III 1000V

The Major Tech MT575 is a digital insulation resistance tester with four test voltage ranges of 1000V, 2500V, 5000V, and 10,000V DC, rated CAT IV 600V and CAT III 1000V. It measures insulation resistance up to 2TΩ on the 10,000V range, with a short circuit current output up to 5mA for testing large plant. The MT575 also measures AC and DC voltage from 30V to 600V and stores 200 results in memory for recall on the display. A microprocessor-controlled two-line display shows the insulation reading, elapsed test time, output voltage, and output current together.

Insulation faults in HV motors, transformers, and long cable runs rarely announce themselves before a breakdown stops production. Proving the condition of that plant needs test voltages well beyond what a 1kV megohmmeter can drive through the insulation. The MT575 applies up to 10,000V DC with auto-ranging to 2TΩ, enough stress to expose weakness a lower voltage never reveals. Its 5mA short circuit current is sized for cables, transformers, motors, generators, and large wiring installations.

For contractors maintaining industrial plant, DAR and PI testing turns a one-off reading into trend data that supports condition reports and re-energisation decisions. Test time adjusts from 1 to 30 minutes, and the MT575 runs the timed sequence, freezes the result on auto hold, and saves it among 200 recallable stored results. Auto discharge bleeds the test object down after every run before the leads come off. The kit ships with test leads, crocodile clips, a carrying case, shoulder strap, and eight C cells.

        Features

        • Four test voltage ranges — the rotary selector sets 1000V, 2500V, 5000V, or 10,000V DC, with auto-ranging on every insulation range.
        • Insulation resistance to 2TΩ — range ceilings run 200GΩ at 1000V, 500GΩ at 2500V, 1TΩ at 5000V, and 2TΩ at 10,000V, all at ±(5% + 5 digits).
        • CAT IV 600V / CAT III 1000V — the MT575 is rated to IEC 61010-1 for utility-level and distribution-level test environments.
        • 5mA short circuit current — output current suits cables, transformers, motors, generators, insulators, and large wiring installations.
        • DAR and PI indication — dielectric absorption ratio and polarisation index results read directly from the two-line display.
        • Adjustable test time — timed tests run from 1 minute to 30 minutes, with auto hold freezing the reading at completion.
        • 200-result memory — the MT575 saves 200 measurements for recall on the display, backed by a date and time calendar.
        • Leakage current display — current measurement spans 0.5nA to 0.55mA alongside the resistance reading and output voltage.
        • 600V AC/DC voltmeter — the voltage function reads 30V to 600V at ±(2% + 3 digits); it does not resolve voltages below 30V.
        • Live circuit warning — visual and audible alarms trigger when external voltage above 30V AC or DC is present at the terminals.
        • Auto discharge — the MT575 discharges the circuit under test automatically after each measurement completes.
        • Field-ready build — a moulded case, backlit display, low battery indication, and auto power off support long days on plant, running on eight C cells.

        Where to use

        • Motor and generator maintenance — the MT575 stress-tests winding insulation at service-relevant voltages before failures take machines offline.
        • HV and MV cable testing — long feeder and submain runs test at 5000V or 10,000V where a 1kV tester cannot certify condition.
        • Transformer condition assessment — DAR and PI ratios build the moisture and contamination picture behind oil and winding decisions.
        • Switchgear and insulator checks — the MT575 proves insulation on switchgear and line insulators with measuring reach to 2TΩ.
        • Commissioning large installations — new industrial wiring proves out at 5000V and 10,000V test voltages before energisation and handover.
        • Periodic plant surveys — 200-result memory carries a full round of scheduled insulation tests back to the office in one instrument.

The MT575 applies test voltages up to 10,000V DC and is a tool for trained personnel following safe isolation procedures; confirm the circuit is de-energised and discharged before connection. Its voltmeter function reads only from 30V to 600V, so it does not replace a general-purpose multimeter for low voltage work. The instrument warns visually and audibly when external voltage above 30V is present, and auto discharge runs after each test before leads are removed.

        (MT575)

Four ranges select on the rotary switch: 1000V, 2500V, 5000V, and 10,000V DC, with auto-ranging on each. Maximum insulation resistance readings run from 200 gigohms on the 1000V range up to 2 teraohms on the 10,000V range.

Dielectric absorption ratio and polarisation index compare insulation readings taken at set intervals during a timed test. The ratios indicate moisture and contamination in windings and cables, giving a condition picture that a single spot reading cannot. Both display directly on the tester.

Yes. Up to 200 measurement results save in memory and recall onto the two-line display for review. A date and time calendar is built in, and auto hold freezes each reading when the timed test completes.

Test time adjusts from 1 minute to 30 minutes. The display shows the insulation reading, elapsed measuring time, output voltage, and output current throughout, and the circuit discharges automatically once the test finishes.

The tester warns visually and audibly when external voltage above 30V AC or DC is present, and it should only connect to circuits that are isolated and discharged. It is rated CAT IV 600V and CAT III 1000V to IEC 61010-1.

Test leads, crocodile clips, a carrying case, a shoulder strap, eight C batteries, and the instruction manual. The tester runs on the eight LR14 C cells with a CR2032 cell fitted, and low battery indication shows when replacement is due.
