Sicame | Mains Box Single Phase 1P+N | Black IP66
The Sicame MCB1/2HAE is a single-phase mains connection box rated IP66, designed to protect consumer mains at the service entry point. The MCB1/2HAE contains two plug-in HSC series (House Service Connector) units providing a sealed bimetallic connection of copper consumer mains to aluminium or copper service cables rated for 6–35 mm². This complies with Queensland electrical standards and is approved for single-phase mains installations.
Replacing deteriorated or missing mains boxes is a common retrofit task on older residential installations, particularly where UV damage to PVC consumer mains has occurred. The MCB1/2HAE solves this problem by offering a fully sealed, weatherproof enclosure that eliminates UV degradation and provides a clean, code-compliant entry point for consumer mains on the service head.
Electricians value the MCB1/2HAE for its straightforward installation and solid construction. The polyamide box accepts rear entry of consumer mains through a 32 mm fine-thread socket, and the two HSC connectors deliver a sealed bi-metal joint rated for long-term outdoor service. The connectors are themselves IP67 rated, and the cover plate design allows clear exit of bonding tails and identification tags. Stock rotation is simple because the unit is a standard Sicame product, widely used across Queensland installations.
Features
- Dual HSC series connectors — two House Service Connectors per box, each providing a sealed bimetallic joint between copper and aluminium service cables without separation or oxidation over time.
- IP66 main enclosure — fully sealed polyamide construction rated IP66 for outdoor weather protection, with connectors rated IP67 for additional fault tolerance.
- 6–35 mm² cable capacity — suitable for most residential service entry sizes, from single-phase 40 amp to 80 amp installations depending on cable cross-section and local supply regulations.
- Rear 32 mm thread entry — consumer mains pass through a female 32 mm fine-thread socket on the rear face, reducing entry damage and maintaining the seal on the front mains entry.
- UV-stabilised polyamide body — heavy-duty engineering plastic resists UV degradation and cracking in direct sunlight, eliminating the PVC consumer mains failure mode it replaces.
- Cover plate for bonding tails — the removable cover allows clear passage and labelling of bonding and earthing conductor tags without distorting the HSC connections.
- Single-phase 1P+N rated — specifically designed for single-phase service entry; three-phase installations require the MCB3/4HAE variant.
- 13 mm hexagon socket tightening — all HSC bolts are tightened with a 13 mm AF six-point hexagon socket to specification, preventing overtightening damage to the bimetallic joint.
- Secure bolt assembly — socket-head hexagon bolts that do not corrode and will not loosen in service, meeting QLD approval requirements.
- Queensland approved — the MCB1/2HAE carries QLD network approval for single-phase consumer mains protection at the service entry point.
Where to use
- Service entry retrofit installations — the MCB1/2HAE is the standard replacement where an existing mains box has weathered, cracked, or failed due to UV exposure of PVC consumer mains.
- Residential new builds and additions — used on new single-phase houses and extensions where the service entry point requires a sealed, approved mains connection box before the service fuse or main isolator.
- Rental property refurbishment — a necessary upgrade on older rental properties during compliance renovation to bring mains connection boxes up to current Queensland standards.
- Supply authority upgrades — when a supply authority upgrades its connection point or service head arrangement, the MCB1/2HAE provides the sealed protection point at the consumer mains side.
- Weatherproof service head zones — suitable for installations where the mains connection point is exposed to direct rain, wind, salt air, or other harsh outdoor conditions requiring IP66 protection.
- Single-phase domestic and light commercial — standard on single-phase circuits rated up to 80 amps; ensures compliance regardless of whether the installation is domestic, small office, or light workshop use.
The MCB1/2HAE is not suitable for three-phase service entry; the MCB3/4HAE is required for three-phase applications. The box itself does not include circuit protection devices — it is a connection point only and must be backed by a service fuse, main switch, or RCD device installed on the consumer side of the mains entry.
