Learn more by watching our CSG TMA116 | 24 Hour 1 Pole 13A Analogue Timer | 72 Hour Backup video.
The Connected Switch Gear TMA116 is a 24 hour analogue time switch rated 240V AC 13A, on a single DIN rail module. The TMA116 uses a quartz controlled movement with a rechargeable Ni-MH backup battery that holds the program for 72 hours. Dial segments set ON and OFF in 15 minute increments, giving up to 96 switching operations across a daily cycle.
Hot water services, pool pumps and outdoor lighting all operate on repeating daily schedules. A congested switchboard with no spare width leaves little room for a bulky time switch. The TMA116 occupies one 17.5mm DIN module, so it mounts alongside existing circuit protection without requiring a switchboard upgrade. Owners commonly shift hot water into off-peak hours, or into the middle of the day for solar self consumption. Either arrangement depends on the timer retaining its schedule through an interruption to supply. The 72 hour battery backup preserves the programmed settings, so the daily cycle resumes without manual reprogramming.
Sparkies fitting the TMA116 face a straightforward wire and set installation. Land the supply, clip the timer onto the rail, depress the required segments, then rotate the dial to the current time. The analogue dial remains readable at a glance inside a dark switchboard. The ON/AUTO/OFF selector confirms the controlled circuit immediately, with no wait for a programmed segment to come around. The single module width allows several circuits to run independent timers within a single existing enclosure. The five year Connected Switch Gear warranty covers replacement and reinstallation if the movement fails in service.
The TMA116 is not weatherproof and requires installation inside a switchboard or enclosure offering protection from moisture and dust ingress. The unit is rated for ambient temperatures of -10 to +50 degrees C and relative humidity up to 85%. Uninsulated roof spaces and exposed outdoor positions fall outside that operating range. The 13A resistive ceiling drops to 4A on inductive loads such as motors. The 24 hour dial repeats one identical pattern daily, so it cannot hold a separate weekend schedule.
Verified Sparky Direct customer reviews: CSG TMA116 | 24 Hour 1 Pole 13A Analogue Timer | 72 Hour Backup (TMA116)
"A great small size analogue 24 hour timer. Easily adjusted as required." — Jeff
"A simple 24 Hour timer with battery backup." — John
"Excellent Pool Timer" — Paul
(TMA116)
The TMA116 is rated 13A resistive at 240V AC, which covers hot water elements and similar heating loads. Other limits apply by load type: 1000W incandescent lighting, 150W energy saving lamps, and 4A inductive at a power factor of 0.6. Motor loads such as pumps must sit inside the inductive rating.
Installation must be carried out by a licensed electrician. The timer clips onto standard DIN rail inside a switchboard and takes up one 17.5mm module, with the 240V supply and the switched active landed on its terminals. Warranty cover is void if the product is not installed by a licensed electrician.
A rechargeable Ni-MH battery holds the clock and the programmed segments for up to 72 hours without mains supply. When power returns, the dial picks up the correct time of day and the schedule continues without being reset. The battery recharges from the mains supply during normal operation.
The quartz controlled movement holds to plus or minus 3 seconds per day at 22 degrees C, so drift over a week sits within about half a minute. Timekeeping is checked against the pointer on the dial face, and the dial can be turned to the correct time at any point.
The shortest interval is 15 minutes, set by pushing individual segments on the outer ring of the dial. A full 24 hour cycle gives 96 segments, so up to 96 ON and OFF operations can be arranged across a day. The same pattern then repeats every 24 hours.
A three position ON/AUTO/OFF selector overrides the dial. ON holds the contact closed, OFF holds it open, and AUTO returns control to the programmed segments. The programmed pattern is untouched while the override is in use, which is handy for testing the circuit at handover.
Common uses include electric hot water services, pool and spa filtration pumps, outdoor and security lighting circuits, retail signage, and irrigation or transfer pumps. Any resistive load within the 13A rating that runs to a fixed daily pattern suits the TMA116. Loads needing a different weekend schedule fall outside a 24 hour dial.
Connected Switch Gear provides a five year in-house warranty from the invoice date. If the timer fails within that period, Connected Switch Gear covers the cost of replacing the product and having it reinstalled by an authorised electrician. The warranty is void if the original installation was not done by a licensed electrician.
