        Schneider Electric A9F44163 | Acti9 iC60N 63A MCB 1P C Curve | 6kA

The Schneider Electric A9F44163 is a single pole miniature circuit breaker rated 63A with a C tripping characteristic, from the Acti9 iC60N Disbo range. It carries 6000A Icn at 240V AC to EN/IEC 60898-1 and 10kA Icu at 220 to 240V AC to EN/IEC 60947-2. The A9F44163 holds Category A utilisation classification and is certified for both alternating and direct current networks. The body occupies a single 18mm pole width and clips onto standard DIN rail.

63A is the top single pole rating in the iC60N Disbo range, so it lands on sub-mains, sub-board feeds and fixed plant sized close to the cable limit. Boards that also carry DC control or battery supply alongside those loads need a breaker certified for both networks. A DC arc has no zero crossing to assist extinction, so the interrupting mechanism must be rated for DC duty. The A9F44163 is certified for AC and DC networks, with DC operation to 72V and a C characteristic that rides through compressor and motor inrush.

Carrying one part number certified for both duties cuts the number of breakers held on the van. The A9F44163 mounts on standard DIN rail at a single 18mm pole width, so existing switchboard schedules and enclosure layouts need no revision. Terminals accept 35mm² rigid or 25mm² flexible conductor, which matters at 63A where the incoming sub-main conductor is already substantial. The sealable handle supports positive isolation, so the circuit is proved dead before downstream work starts.

        Features

        • 63A rated current — the top single pole rating in the iC60N Disbo range, sized for sub-mains and heavy fixed wired plant on a designed circuit.
        • C trip curve — magnetic tripping is set at 8 times rated current plus or minus 20 percent, which puts the A9F44163 at roughly 504A.
        • AC and DC rated — the Disbo iC60 mechanism switches AC to 240V and DC to 72V, covering both duties from one device.
        • 6000A rated short-circuit capacity — Icn of 6000A at 240V AC to EN/IEC 60898-1, the figure most Australian switchboard schedules are written to.
        • 10kA breaking capacity — Icu of 10kA at 220 to 240V AC to EN/IEC 60947-2, rising to 36kA on AC circuits between 10 and 60V.
        • 7.5kA service breaking capacity — Ics of 7.5kA at 220 to 240V AC, the fault level the device can clear and remain in service afterwards.
        • Larger terminal cage — a single top or bottom terminal takes 1 to 35mm² rigid or 1 to 25mm² flexible conductor at 3.5 N.m torque.
        • Energy limitation class 3 — the highest limitation class under EN/IEC 60898-1, cutting let-through energy reaching downstream cable and equipment.
        • Contact position and trip indication — a contact position indicator shows the true state of the contacts and a trip indicator flags the faulted device.
        • Single pole width — the A9F44163 measures 18mm wide, 85mm high and 78.5mm deep, and clips onto rail without tools.
        • No earth leakage protection — the A9F44163 covers overload and short circuit only, and residual current protection comes from a separate block on the board.
        • IP20 rating only — the breaker is finger-protected but not sealed, so it belongs inside a switchboard or enclosure, never in an exposed or wet position.

        Where to use

        • Sub-mains and sub-board feeds — 63A protection upstream of a shed, workshop or granny flat board on a designed circuit.
        • Ducted air conditioning and large plant — the C curve absorbs compressor starting current on ducted systems and larger fixed equipment.
        • Three phase boards built from single pole devices — the A9F44163 is fitted per phase where the schedule calls for single pole protection.
        • Pump and irrigation circuits — starting inrush from pool, bore and pressure pumps stays inside the C curve envelope.
        • DC control and battery circuits — the A9F44163 is rated to 72V DC, which covers 12V, 24V and 48V supplies.
        • Control panels and machine builds — DIN rail mounting and an 18mm footprint suit panel schedules built to fixed widths.
        • Switchboard upgrades and rewires — a clip-on replacement where an existing 63A C curve device is being changed out.

The A9F44163 is not a residual current device and provides no earth leakage protection independently. It is rated IP20, so installation must be inside a switchboard or enclosure, and the breaker is not suitable for exposed or wet locations. Direct current application stops at 72V, so the device must not be fitted to higher voltage DC circuits.

        (A9F44163)

The breaker conforms to EN/IEC 60898-1 and EN/IEC 60947-2. Rated short-circuit capacity is 6000A Icn at 240V AC under 60898-1, and 10kA Icu at 220 to 240V AC under 60947-2. Utilisation category is A, rated insulation voltage 500V AC, impulse withstand 6kV.

Installation or replacement inside a switchboard must be carried out by a licensed electrician under AS/NZS 3000. The breaker clips onto DIN rail without tools. Terminals are tightened to 3.5 N.m with 14mm of insulation stripped from the conductor.

A C curve trips magnetically at 8 times rated current plus or minus 20 percent, which is roughly 504A at 63A. That headroom rides through compressor, pump and transformer inrush that would trip a B curve device on start-up.

The Acti9 iC60N Disbo is certified for AC and DC networks. DC ratings are 15kA Icu at 12 to 60V DC and 10kA Icu at 60 to 72V DC. Circuits above 72V DC sit outside the rating and need a device rated for that voltage.

Each top or bottom terminal accepts 1 to 35mm2 rigid or 1 to 25mm2 flexible conductor. Strip 14mm of insulation and tighten to 3.5 N.m. That range covers the conductor sizes normally run to a 63A sub-main.

Earth leakage protection is not built into the Acti9 iC60N Disbo. The device covers overload and short circuit only. Residual current protection comes from a separate add-on block fitted alongside it on the rail, or from a combined residual current breaker on that circuit.
