The Schneider Electric A9F44316 is a 16A three pole circuit breaker from the Acti9 iC60N Disbo range. It protects a three phase circuit against overload and short circuit, and all three phases trip together. The A9F44316 has a C curve and is rated 6000A Icn at 400V AC to EN/IEC 60898-1. It clips onto DIN rail and takes up three modules.
A 16A three phase circuit often ends at an outlet rather than a fixed machine. What it feeds changes from job to job: a welder one week, a compressor or a saw bench the next. Motors draw several times their running current for the first few cycles of a start. A C curve allows for that. Magnetic trip is set at eight times rated current, around 128A on a 16A device.
Boards running several 16A three phase circuits end up with a row of identical breakers. A trip indicator on the front shows which one has operated, and a contact position indicator reports the state of the contacts rather than just where the toggle is sitting. The A9F44316 is three modules wide and takes a padlock in the off position.
The A9F44316 is not a residual current device and provides no earth leakage protection on its own. It is rated IP20, so installation must be inside a switchboard or enclosure, and the breaker is not suitable for exposed or wet positions. Rated voltage stops at 440V AC and 180V DC, so the device must not be fitted above those limits.
(A9F44316)
The A9F44316 protects a three phase circuit against overload and short circuit. A bimetallic element trips on sustained overcurrent, and a solenoid trips within milliseconds on a fault. All three poles open together, and the toggle is reset by hand once the fault is cleared.
The breaker conforms to EN/IEC 60898-1 and EN/IEC 60947-2. Rated short-circuit capacity is 6000A Icn at 400V AC under 60898-1, and 10kA Icu at 380 to 415V AC under 60947-2. Utilisation category is A, rated insulation voltage 500V AC, impulse withstand 6kV.
Installation or replacement inside a switchboard must be carried out by a licensed electrician under AS/NZS 3000. The breaker clips onto DIN rail without tools. Terminals are tightened to 2 N.m with 14mm of insulation stripped from the conductor.
A C curve trips magnetically at 8 times rated current plus or minus 20 percent, which is roughly 128A at 16A. That headroom rides through motor starting and transformer magnetising inrush that would trip a B curve device.
Each top or bottom terminal accepts 1 to 25mm2 rigid or 1 to 16mm2 flexible conductor. Strip 14mm of insulation and tighten to 2 N.m. That range covers the conductor sizes normally run to a 16A three phase subcircuit.
Earth leakage protection is not built into the Acti9 iC60N Disbo. The device covers overload and short circuit only. Residual current protection comes from a separate add-on block fitted alongside it on the rail, or from a combined residual current breaker on that circuit.
