Find the best Clipsal Solis Series Light Switches here at Sparky Direct. [ Read More ]

The Solis Series is the push-button side of the wider Clipsal Solis Collection. The range includes light switches, dimmers, double power points, USB-C outlets and connected smart sockets. It targets premium residential projects, renovations, apartments and design-led commercial fit-outs across Australia. Backed by Clipsal and Schneider Electric, the platform is supported by trade-facing supply and well-known mechanism families.
Solis Series and Clipsal Solis T-Series Light Switches share the Solis name but use different actuation. Solis Series is the push-button option. T Series uses a toggle. Confirm which range is intended at the quoting stage to avoid switching the look mid-project.
Solis Series sits above the everyday Clipsal Classic Switch range, the Clipsal 2000 Light Switches family and standard Iconic. The cover system is purpose-designed for Solis, but the mechanism behind the cover is from the Clipsal Iconic 40 series. This means electricians who already work with Clipsal Iconic Switches and Dimmers can specify Solis without learning a new mechanism platform.
The target audience covers homeowners, builders, electricians, architects, interior designers and renovation specifiers. The range suits buyers who want a clean, architectural switch finish rather than a standard white rocker switch. Electricians benefit from familiar Iconic mechanism compatibility. Designers benefit from finish consistency across a full project. Volume builders use the range where finish detail influences buyer perception of the home.
The push-button mechanism replaces the traditional rocker action with a flush press. The face stays clean and unbroken across the gangs, with no visible toggle or rocker protrusion. The result is a quieter, more deliberate switching action and a switch plate that visually disappears into the wall when not in use. The range suits living areas, bedrooms, hallways, kitchens and open-plan rooms equally well.
The Solis cover sits at just 4.5 mm thick, close to the wall rather than projecting from it. The slim profile rewards careful bracket alignment and clean rough-in work, so it suits trades focused on quality finish. The look supports modern, minimalist and architectural interiors where bulky switch plates would undermine the design.
Match the switch finish to tapware, handles, cabinetry, wall colour and lighting fixtures. Decide the finish at the design stage rather than at fit-off, since switching mid-project usually means re-ordering the full house pack.
| Attribute | Solis Series | Solis T Series |
|---|---|---|
| Actuation | Flush push-button | Toggle |
| Cover profile | 4.5 mm | 3.9 mm |
| Finishes | Matte White, Matte Black | Platinum Aluminium, Ebony Aluminium, Brushed Brass, White Ceramic |
| Best for | Clean, recessive modern interiors | Material-led, architectural and luxury interiors |
The two ranges should usually not be mixed in the same room unless a designer has called for that deliberately.
Solis Series switches are offered across single and multi-gang plates. Gang count matches the number of lighting circuits controlled from one plate, so a 3 gang switch covers three circuits at one wall position. Single and double gang plates handle bedrooms and hallways. Three and four gang plates handle kitchens, entries, living areas and open-plan zones where multiple lighting circuits meet at a single switch bank. Confirm gang count against the electrical plan before ordering, since changing gang count after rough-in usually means re-cutting the wall box.
Dimmable Solis switches allow brightness control where the lamp and driver support it. The Solis cover accepts compatible Clipsal Iconic Dimmers and Timers in a push-button form factor. LED compatibility, load rating and dimmer suitability must be confirmed by the licensed electrician against the lamp schedule. Avoid mixing dimmer types within a circuit, since this is a frequent cause of flicker and end-of-range drop-out on LED loads.
Solis power points carry the same finish across outlet positions, keeping the wall language consistent from switches to GPOs. Double power points are the standard residential choice for bedrooms, kitchens, home offices, living rooms, apartments and premium renovations. Project schedules should confirm outlet quantities and locations during planning, since added GPOs at fit-off usually trigger plate substitutions if specific finishes are short on stock. Compare against the broader Clipsal Power Points range when finalising the GPO schedule.
Solis USB charging outlets use a single USB Type-C fast charging port. There is no USB-A variant within the Solis range. The outlet suits kitchen benches, bedside positions, study zones, apartments and short-stay accommodation where modern device charging is part of daily use. The wider USB Powerpoint category lists adjacent options across other Clipsal ranges if a mix of USB-A and USB-C is needed elsewhere in the project.
Solis connected sockets integrate with the Clipsal Wiser ecosystem. Wiser-connected Solis devices use Zigbee and require a Wiser Hub for app control, scheduling, scene creation and energy monitoring. Buyers planning future expansion should confirm the Wiser Hub is included in the bill of materials, since the connected sockets cannot reach the app without it. The full Clipsal Iconic Wiser range and the wider Smart Power Points category set out the supporting hardware.
Solis Series cover plates are compatible with Clipsal Iconic Mechanisms in the 40 series only. Other Clipsal mechanism ranges are not designed to fit a Solis cover. Maximum switching amperage within the Solis-compatible Iconic range is 32A when paired with the correct mechanism. For higher-load circuits such as cookers, heaters or specialist loads, the electrician should verify the chosen mechanism against the actual load before placing the order.
The Solis system has four pieces: the visible cover, the grid behind it, an adaptor where required and the Iconic 40 series mechanism. Each part has a role in keeping the 4.5 mm slim profile sitting flat and even. Ordering one piece without the others is the most common cause of an incomplete kit at fit-off. Project schedules should list cover, grid, adaptor and mechanism as separate lines, and the Clipsal Solis Switch Grid and Plate category groups the relevant assembly parts.
Rotary dimmer adaptors are not compatible with Solis cover plates. Supported push-button dimmer configurations require correct setup and LED locator-light considerations. Not all smart switching functions are built into the visible Solis cover. Where smart features are required, the matching Wiser mechanism or connected device must be specified in the schedule, not assumed from the cover plate alone.
Installing, replacing or altering light switches and power points is electrical work. It must be completed by a licensed electrician in Australia in line with AS/NZS 3000 Wiring Rules and the relevant state or territory electrical safety laws. Homeowners, builders and designers can select products and finalise schedules. The wiring and energising work itself must be handled by a licensed professional.
Safety note: Solis Series switches and power points are not DIY products. All wiring, replacement, dimmer conversion and smart mechanism installation must be performed by a licensed electrician. Sparky Direct supplies the products. The licensed electrician performs the install.
Correct bracket selection is essential for the Solis slim cover to sit properly. The 155U4 bracket is the common choice for timber-framed Australian homes. Other wall construction types, including plasterboard, masonry and thin wall applications, require their own compatible brackets or mounting accessories. Treat this as specification guidance for the electrician and builder, not as DIY instruction.
Confirm wall depth, bracket alignment, gang configuration and mechanism compatibility before fit-off. Ultra-slim premium switches reveal rough-in errors more visibly than standard switches, so brackets sitting proud or twisted will show on the wall. Finalise the switch schedule before ordering. This reduces last-minute substitutions, finish inconsistencies and the stock delays that can hold up handover.
Clean Solis covers with a damp cloth and mild detergent where appropriate. Avoid abrasive cleaners and solvents that could mark the matte finish. Do not remove or access electrical components for any reason. Contact a licensed electrician for any faulty switch, loose plate, damaged outlet, buzzing, heat, intermittent operation or other electrical concern. The Sparky Direct team is reachable through the contact-us page for product-level questions.
Push-button Solis styling differs sharply from traditional rocker ranges such as Clipsal Classic and Clipsal 2000 Series. Traditional switches remain more budget-focused, which suits rental fit-outs, volume builds and like-for-like replacement work. Solis is chosen for design impact and whole-home finish consistency, particularly in premium homes, renovations and visible design areas.
The Iconic range is a flexible mid-market system with broad colour and accessory options. Solis is the premium upgrade for buyers who want a more architectural finish while keeping compatibility with Iconic 40 series mechanisms. Iconic gives more cover skin choice. Solis gives a cleaner, more deliberate visual outcome on the wall. Smart compatibility, mechanism families and project suitability are similar across the two.
Solis uses a geometric push-button design. Saturn uses a premium glass-style aesthetic. Solis tends to be stronger for matte, minimalist and architectural interiors. Saturn suits buyers who prefer the Saturn visual language. Either way, switches, power points and accessories should be matched across the full project to avoid the wall language drifting room to room. The Clipsal Saturn Zen Light Switches range is the direct comparison point.
Solis Series uses push-button actuation, a 4.5 mm cover and matte polymer finishes. Solis T Series uses toggle actuation, a 3.9 mm cover and material finishes such as brass, aluminium and ceramic. Recommend Solis Series for clean, recessive modern interiors. Recommend Solis T Series where the design brief calls for visible material character on the wall.
Compare premium ranges on practical buyer criteria: Australian availability, finish consistency, smart integration, mechanism compatibility, installer familiarity and support through electrical wholesalers. Solis stands out where a premium visual outcome needs to be balanced with trade-friendly installation and stable supply. Unsupported claims of outright superiority are best avoided. The right answer usually depends on the room, the budget and the rest of the project specification.
Matte White suits neutral, coastal and Scandinavian interiors, display homes and understated design briefs. Matte Black suits high-contrast interiors with black fixtures, dark cabinetry or architectural feature walls. Review physical finish samples where colour matching is critical, since on-screen renders rarely reflect the true matte effect on a wall.
For trade projects, build the schedule around exact product codes, gang counts, finish, mechanism, bracket and adaptor parts. Confirm the full quantity of switches, outlets, dimmers, smart devices and accessories before ordering. Sparky Direct, as an Australian online electrical wholesaler, supports project purchasing through clear product listings, codes and stock cues. The team can be reached through the contact-us page for trade ordering questions and bulk quantities.
Pricing varies by switch type, gang count, finish, power point type, smart functionality and dimmer configuration. Premium ranges cost more per point than standard switches. Whole-home budgets should account for the total number of switches and outlets, not just a per-unit price comparison. Live product listings carry current pricing, since component combinations and stock vary.
The strongest value sits in high-visibility spaces such as entries, kitchens, living rooms, master bedrooms and display homes. For budget-conscious renovations, prioritise key rooms first while keeping finish consistency within each room. For builders and developers, specifying one Solis finish consistently reduces ordering complexity and produces a more coherent finished project at handover.
Buy Solis Series products from Australian electrical wholesalers and authorised online electrical suppliers. Run product-level checks on every order, covering correct series, finish, gang count, mechanism compatibility, bracket requirements, smart hub inclusion and the supplier return policy. Treat each item as a planning issue for the licensed electrician and builder, not as DIY troubleshooting.
Contact a licensed electrician for any installation, replacement, rewiring, dimmer conversion, smart mechanism install or power point change. Also contact an electrician for any switch that feels hot, buzzes, flickers, fails to operate reliably, is cracked, loose, discoloured or otherwise shows signs of damage. Wet-area, outdoor-adjacent, kitchen appliance and high-load circuit applications warrant the same caution.

Using the Clipsal Solis range on a large house renovation. Started with the kitchen bench GPOs. The client had selected still new to market 'Carbonized Bamboo' as a primary finish. I felt that the standard white or black GPO would cheapen the kitchen. My client agreed and we made the purchase. She was so excited and impressed, insisted I use Clipsal Solis switches for all light and fan controllers. These are not cheap! But they are a real class act. But in the context of a large reno cost, well sometimes the Project just needs top shelf small details.
This has to be one of the best designed products I have ever installed. Clever waterproof seals throughout and multiple cable entry points. Also, the design has the sockets facing outward and not down making plugging in devices much easier rather than having to crouch down to see the slots. Just one note, devices need to have an earth pin to open the shutter so phone chargers will need to be plugged into an extension lead or plug board
I got these power points installed in my home and I love that I can remove the covers and change them. We originally only had the white covers when we first moved into our new home, but in the past few months I have ordered the black cover skins and replaced the power points in the kitchen and bathroom and they look great. So easy to change out, and great that I did not have to buy a whole new power point.
