The Clipsal 755PSMA5 is a mains-powered photoelectric smoke alarm rated 230V AC/DC 50Hz, with a 9V alkaline backup battery. The alarm detects smouldering fires and open flame, and sounds an 85 dB local alarm. The 755PSMA5 sits in the Clipsal Fire Tek range and conforms to AS 3786.
A backup cell keeps a mains alarm sounding through a blackout, and the cell has to be sound when the power drops. The 755PSMA5 takes a 9V alkaline battery rated for one year, so the cell is checked and changed on an annual cycle. From 1 January 2027 every Queensland dwelling must carry photoelectric alarms, and the 755PSMA5 conforms to AS 3786.
Mains cable lands at a terminal on the back of the device, and the base fixes to the ceiling at four points. The alarm surface mounts, so there is no cut-out to make in the plasterboard. Interconnection runs over wiring, and a single loop carries up to 40 alarms across a whole dwelling.
The 755PSMA5 is rated for indoor installation and is not suitable for outdoor positions, verandahs or carports. The IP20 rating gives no water protection, so the alarm should not be fitted in bathrooms, laundries or wet areas. Ambient conditions must sit between 0 and 45 degrees Celsius, at 90 per cent humidity or below.

The 755PSMA5 conforms to AS 3786, the Australian standard for smoke alarms in homes. It is a photoelectric alarm, which is the sensor type Queensland requires and other states recommend. Check the rules in your own state for how many alarms are needed and where they go.
A licensed electrician is required. The alarm runs from a 230V mains supply and terminates at a cable terminal on the back of the device. It surface mounts to the ceiling and fixes at four points, so there is no cut-out to make.
The 755PSMA5 uses a 9V alkaline cell, rated for one year of service. The battery is user replaceable, so the occupant can change it without an electrician. The cell holds the alarm live through a mains outage or a tripped circuit.
Up to 40 alarms link on a single wired loop. Interconnection runs over wiring rather than radio, so an interconnect conductor is needed between the alarms. When one alarm detects smoke, every alarm on that loop sounds.
Change the 9V alkaline cell every year, since that is the rated battery life. Test the alarm monthly using the push button. Vacuum the vents every three months to keep dust and insects out of the sensing chamber.
Clipsal handles warranty claims directly under an in-home warranty, so you don't need to remove the alarm and send it back. Coverage runs from the invoice date. The warranty is void if a licensed electrician did not install the alarm.
The 755PSMA5 is not suitable outdoors, on a verandah or carport, or anywhere open to weather. The IP20 rating gives no water protection, so bathrooms, laundries and wet areas are out. Keep ambient conditions between 0 and 45 degrees Celsius.
