Custom mechanism engravings are Clipsal 30 Series switch mechanisms with words permanently engraved into the white dolly. Sparky Direct engraves them in-house and keeps adding new mechanisms to the custom engraving category. Choose a ready-made word like LIGHT, FAN, HEAT or OUTSIDE, or design your own text.

The design-your-own mech takes two lines of up to nine characters each. Spaces count as characters. Pre-engraved mechs come with one word already cut in.
Engraving is permanent. It cannot be changed once cut, so check every letter before you order. Limits can differ between products, so check each product page.
Labels peel and marker pen wears off. Engraved text is cut into the polycarbonate dolly, not printed on top, so it stays on the switch you press.
Current engraved mechs are built on a standard Clipsal 30M-WE. They are rated 10A at 250V AC, single pole, and fit Clipsal Classic, 2000 Series and Standard range plates.
Grid and cover plates are sold separately. The mechs are on/off only, so they do not dim or set fan speed. Engraved text colour and size can differ from factory-marked 30 Series mechs, so avoid mixing the two on one plate. As new mechs join the range, check each product page for its specs.
Use them where several switches sit side by side or the load is out of sight. Light, fan, heat lamp and outdoor light circuits are the most common jobs.
Pick a pre-engraved mech or the design-your-own mech. For your own text, enter both lines before you add to cart. Then order the grid and cover plate to suit.

For design-your-own, fill in Text Line 1 and Text Line 2. Keep each line to 9 characters, including spaces.
Read it back once more. Engraving cannot be undone. If the text fields are empty, the mech ships blank and Sparky Direct will not contact you for wording.
Mechs are supplied on their own. Add a grid and cover plate from Clipsal Classic or Clipsal 2000.
Sparky Direct engraves in-house. Design-your-own mechs show an estimated dispatch of 1-2 days, with delivery Australia-wide.
A licensed electrician must install it. Fixed wiring work in Australia must meet AS/NZS 3000:2018, the Wiring Rules, and the warranty is void without a licensed installer.
Plan the whole plate before you order. Use engraved mechs for every switch in the bank so the text colour and size match. The mechs are rated for indoor flush mounting only, so do not use them where they face weather or damp.
All fixed electrical work in Australia must be done by a licensed electrician in line with AS/NZS 3000:2018.
Current engraved mechs carry a 1-year warranty, domestic and commercial, from the invoice date. Design-your-own mechs are made to order, so change-of-mind returns do not apply.

It is a standard Clipsal 30 Series switch mechanism with text laser engraved into the face of the rocker dolly. The marking names the circuit, room or load the switch controls. Engraving is the only change made to the mechanism, so the 10 A, 250 V AC rating and the wiring arrangement are the same as an unmarked Clipsal 30M-WE.
The range currently covers the Clipsal 30M-WE, a white 10 A single pole 30 Series mechanism, in five options: a design-your-own mech (SD-CUSTOM-TEXT-30M-WE) and four ready-made wordings - FAN, HEAT, LIGHT and OUTSIDE. Two lines, with a maximum of nine characters on each line. Spaces count as characters. Nine characters is enough for DOWNLIGHT or ALFRESCO on one line, and two-word labels such as WALL / LIGHTS or HOT / WATER split neatly across both lines.
Short labels that say what the switch controls read best from across the room. Common choices are a room or location (ENTRY, LIVING, BALCONY), a light type (DOWN / LIGHTS, PENDANT, MIRROR), an appliance or service (HOT / WATER, PUMP, TOWEL / RAIL) or a circuit reference. Check the spelling before ordering - the text is engraved exactly as entered.
The text is cut into the polycarbonate dolly rather than printed on the surface, so it does not rub off with cleaning or years of switching. It is a permanent marking for the life of the mechanism.
It is not recommended. Custom engraving sits slightly darker than Clipsal's factory-marked mechanisms and the lettering size can differ, so the two look mismatched side by side. Engraved mechs sit cleanly beside plain unmarked 30 Series mechs, or beside other engraved mechs.
No. Each engraved unit is a mechanism only, with no grid plate or cover plate in the pack. A grid and cover plate need to be ordered separately to complete the switch.
They fit the same plates as a standard Clipsal 30M-WE, including the Clipsal Classic, 2000 Series and Standard ranges. That means an existing plate can stay on the wall while a plain mech is swapped for an engraved one.
No. Clipsal Iconic uses its own mechanism and clip-on dolly, not the 30 Series mech. For Iconic switches, the engraving goes on the dolly instead, see the Custom Dolly Engravings range.
Yes. The mechanism wires for one-way or two-way control, so the same unit suits a single switch position or one end of a two-way pair. A loop terminal is built in for landing a looped active.
Yes. Unlike an Iconic dolly, which clips onto an existing switch without touching any wiring, a mechanism is wired to live conductors behind the plate. Installation is a job for a licensed electrician, and the warranty is void if the mech is not installed by one.
No. It is a flush-mounted indoor mechanism and is not rated for weather exposure or damp locations. Outdoor positions need a weatherproof switch rated for the location.
The mechanism ships without engraving. If the text fields are left blank at checkout, the order is treated as uncustomised and Sparky Direct will not follow up to ask for wording, so enter the text before adding the mech to the cart.
A design-your-own mech is cut to your wording, so it cannot be returned for change of mind once engraved. If it arrives damaged or faulty, contact Sparky Direct within 24 hours for a replacement or refund. Engraved mechs carry a 1-year warranty from the invoice date, and nothing here limits your rights under the Australian Consumer Law.
